Most of us still remember how frightened we were being taken to the doctor as children no matter how nice the physician, and how good the candy was afterward. St. Lukes Hospital Auxilians remember and they are wrapping their arms around the communitys children in supporting the creation of a pediatric treatment room at St. Lukes Hospital Emergency Department.
Each year over 7,000 children from the community come to St. Lukes ER for immediate medical attention, said Dr. Marc Snyder, Medical Director of St. Lukes Emergency Department. Entering a big city ER is frightening enough for anyone, but imagine the impact on a small child. We are very grateful to St. Lukes Auxiliary for helping us fund a child-friendly treatment room in the ER with their Musée luncheon and fashion show on November 15.
The new pediatric treatment room will have features such as an exam
table in the form of a friendly animal, a cartoon character phone, and
state of the art medical equipment will be screened with storybook
character curtains.
We realize that bringing a child to the Emergency Room is traumatic
for the whole family. Often there are other difficulties such as the
children being underinsured or uninsured, said Dr. Snyder. St.
Lukes Auxiliary wants to help us make sure that there is a private and
comforting place to help ease the childs trauma and insure that each
of them receives the best of care."
Maria Vicente-Puletti, St. Lukes Auxiliary President and social worker
at St. Lukes Womens Center said, The Auxiliary has had a long
tradition of supporting childrens services and we are very happy to
support the ER pediatric treatment room with our annual Musée luncheon.
We are also pleased to have the opportunity to honor Drs. Nancy and
Richard Bohannon at the Musée this year. They have both practiced at
the hospital for many decades and have been staunch St. Luke
supporters.
St. Lukes 55 th Annual Musée de Noel will be held on Wednesday,
November 15 at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. Festivities will
begin at 10:30 with a silent auction and vendor sales. After a noon
luncheon, guests can bid on lavish live auction items and will see
Asian-influenced womens clothing designs by Victor Tung of Silk Road in San
Francisco, and Patrick James West Coast Classics for men. Besides
treating children in the ER, Dr. Snyder and his band Dr. Jazz" will
provide live music for the event.
