Editorial Guidelines for EpiscopalBayArea.org

Mission

The mission of EpiscopalBayArea.org is to provide current resources and information about the Episcopal Church in the San Francisco Bay Area. One of the ways we do this is by providing opportunities for registered members to post articles and information about living as Christians in the Diocese of California and beyond. EpiscopalBayArea.org is committed to the highest editorial and ethical standards in the acquisition and provision of its content and services. We strive to be accurate, fair, open-minded, and to reflect a diversity of views and opinions. When we receive submissions, we will take the steps to insure that they are appropriate and accurate. Anyone can submit an article to EpiscopalBayArea.org. Steps for article submission are found below.

We strive to report stories of interest to those seeking a deeper life of faith. It is our hope that all who seek a deeper understanding of what it means to be Christian will be fed by our content. To that end, we will not use language that requires any specific familiarity with the Episcopal Church or the Christian Faith. When inside terms are required by the content of the story, a brief explanation of the term should either follow the term in the body of the story, or in a footnote.

Submission of an article does not guarantee posting or publication. EpiscopalBayArea.org reserves the rite to refuse any posting that does not meet our editorial guidelines. Any submission that contains vulgar, offensive, or hateful language or content will not be posted.

Photos and Illustrations

We accept artwork for the purposes of illustrating an article. Graphics or photos should be no wider than 400 pixels, and should be in either .gif or .jpg format.

Style

For the most part, we use the Associated Press (AP) Style Guide. We differ from AP style in a few minor, yet distinct ways. For instance, we use a comma before conjunctions in a series.

Example: The flag of the United States is red, white, and blue.

Another difference is that we spell out state names instead of using abreviations.

The final difference between our style and AP style is that we use complete time elements.
Example: 6:00 p.m. is correct. 6pm is incorrect.

Other than these examples, we stick to AP style. If you do not have the AP Style and Libel Guide, know that we will edit your submission to fit AP style.
