It's convention time in the Diocese of California, and this year's
convention, to be held Saturday, October 23rd, at Grace Cathedral, will
be anything but business as usual. With 46 candidates currently
nominated for diocesan offices, resolutions on clergy compensation and
diocesan employee parental leave, delegates will be working hard to
keep on top of it all. But along with the business, this convention
offers opportunities to enter into the conversations that help us
better fulfill our role as Christ's Church in the world.
"This year's Diocesan Convention is going to provide an opportunity to
go more deeply into the Jubilate Deo initiatives," says the Rev. Cn.
Michael Hansen, Executive Officer of the Diocese. "We will have open
meetings with our three Jubilate Deo areas of congregational
development, multi-cultural issues, and empowering the ministry of the
baptized. There will also be an open meeting on clergy housing with
Bishop Swing.
"As I go around the Diocese of California, people are more interested
with what they see Jubilate Deo offering congregational life," says
Hansen. With the open meetings, delegates will have an opportunity to
share the fruits of the Jubilate Deo initiatives, and to learn from one
another about the important work of congregational development, the
challenges and opportunities that come with the growing diversity of
the Diocese, and the calling to live into the ministry we are all
ordained into at our baptism.
We've tried to pack as much of the pre-convention information into
these pages as we can, but please remember that this is your
convention. On October 23rd, you are invited to participate in the
conversations and to witness the commitment that so many make to do the
work of the Body of Christ in the Diocese of California.
