9:00 a.m.to 3:00 p.m.

Please RSVP by December 14th. Space is limited to 25 people.
Two endangered species, the California clapper rail and salt marsh harvest mouse, depend on Santa Venetia Marsh for survival. We will be planting native plants like coyote bush, gumplant and sticky monkey flower and weeding out invasive plants such as harding grass and fennel to help make this habitat liveable for these species and a host of others.

After the project we will head over to China Camp State Park to enjoy our lunch and some discussion.  Please bring a bag lunch and a signed registration/medical release form that you can download from the Document Library here.

On a Mission From God: DYYA Mission Imperative Groups Print E-mail

ON A MISSION FROM GOD

DYYA Mission Imperative Groups

When a mix of mix of youth, young adults, youth ministers, young adult ministers and clergy were asked to dream about an “ideal” diocesan youth and young adult      ministry and determine the places of need, promise and God's call, four common threads emerged.  They are:
  • Diversity
  • Faith Formation
  • Training
  • Outreach and Service
These four Mission Imperatives will be the foundation on which we focus and build our diocesan ministry.

What is a Mission Imperative Group and what do they do?

A working group forms around each of the different Imperatives. The groups evaluate our existing programs and create new programs using the mission statements as goals to be reflected in our ministry.
In the planning of all of our programs, events and trainings we work intentionally to ensure that all the Mission  Imperatives are represented.
The Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministry (DYYA) Commission is the hub of the wheel with two       Commission members in each Mission Imperative Group acting as facilitators and liaisons.  The DYYA Coordinator  works with all four of the Mission  Imperative Groups providing logistics coordination, support and resources.

Who can be a Mission Imperative Group Member?

Each Mission Imperative has a working group comprised of
  • three youth
  • three young adults
  • three adults
  • two DYYA Commission liaisons

The requirements to be a member of a Mission imperative group are to:
  • be an active part of a congregation
  • have references and an application
  • sign and abide by the Community Agreement and Diocesan Standards of Behavior.
  • be certified in abuse prevention, antiracism and sexual harassment prevention trainings offered by the Diocese
  • All members 18 years of age and older will be required to have a background check
  • commit to a year (members may  remain no longer than three years then may move on to a different group)

What are the overall responsibilities of each group?
To imagine, create, implement,  evaluate and promote Diocesan Youth and Young Adult events and trainings.

What are the mission statements of each Mission Imperative Group?
Diversity:
To reflect, honor, engage and celebrate all aspects of the vibrant diversity of the Bay Area.
Faith Formation:
To offer resources and opportunities that will foster an atmosphere of lifelong discernment of gifts and God’s presence.
Training:
To develop leadership among youth, young adults and those who support them for ministry to the church and to the world.
Outreach and Service:
To engage young people in service: where lives are changed through and with agape (unconditional love.)

When do the Mission Imperative Groups meet?

Each group will meet at least 4-6 times a year and may create sub groups to     implement and evaluate programs.  The meeting dates, times and location will be set for the year at each group’s initial September meeting.

If you are interested in serving on a  Mission Imperative Group, please let us know by calling the DYYA office at  (415)869-7817 or emailing us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Just think of all the things we can do!!

YAYA....DYYA... I'm so confused! Print E-mail

 Introducing the DYYA!

You might have guessed that big changes abound in the world of diocesan youth and young adult ministries!  Among them, comes a name and structure change.

We know that after a while it all starts to sound like alphabet soup.  However, we are being very intentional about discerning what God is calling us to in regard to diocesan Youth and Young Adult Ministries.

We have laid the name "YAYA" to rest and are starting off this new era with the name of "DYYA" representing the Department of Youth and Young Adult Ministries. We have changed the structure from that of a Steering Committee to a Commission.

This new Commission will be the eyes and ears of the department - focusing on what is going on in our congregations and reflecting back to the Commission the joys and challenges so that we might respond with celebration or support.  If you have any questions, concerns or ideas to share please contact one of these wonderful folks!
