St. Dorothy’s Rest is proud to celebrate the centennial of its Chapel with a rededication ceremony. The service will be celebrated by the Bishop of the Diocese of California, the Rt. Rev. William Swing. A reception will follow at St. Dorothy’s Main House, adjacent to the Chapel.
Founded in 1901 to honor the memory of their daughter, Dorothy, by the Rev. James Otis and Nellie O. Lincoln, St. Dorothy’s Rest is the oldest continually operating Summer Camp in California. The Chapel was built of native redwood in 1905 by Melvin “Boss” Meeker, with the help of many other supporters.
St. Dorothy’s Rest is a Camp and Retreat Center of the Episcopal Diocese of California, located in Camp Meeker, Sonoma County. Each year it serves over 300 youth through its Summer Camp programs, including many children with serious health issues. Over 75 churches and non-profit groups hold retreats at St. Dorothy’s, most returning year after year.
