Some of Medea Benjamin's more well known campaigns include unfurling banners that read "No War" and "Bush Mandate: Bring the Troops Home" at President George W. Bush's second inauguration and interrupting Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki during his speech to a joint session of Congress with shouts of "Iraqis want the troops to leave. Bring them home now." Is interrupting public speech the only way for dissenting voices to be heard, or is it just another sign of the breakdown of civil society? Has CODEPINK been a positive or negative force for open political discourse? Should all public officials be fairly considered potential targets for this kind of civil disobedience?
