The St. Francis' Choir and the choir of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in San Francisco (Rodney Gehrke, Director of Music & Liturgy) will sing Psalmkonzert (Psalm Concerto) by German composer Heinz Werner Zimmermann (b. 1930). This unusual work for five-part choir, children's choir, three trumpets, vibraphone and double bass, uses polyphony and jazz rhythms in a synthesis of ancient and modern musical traditions. Also to be performed is the rarely heard Meditation for Marimba and Organ by American composer Paul Creston (1906-1985) and organ music by H.W. Zimmermann and Samuel Scheidt.
A free-will offering will be collected. A champagne reception in the Guild Hall will take place following Evensong. Please join us, and bring your friends.
